Where to buy English wine?

Thankfully, it is now easier than ever to shop for English wine. Here are the best ways to shop for English wine.

Where to buy English wine: Specialist wine retailers

The benefit of shopping via a retailer, is that you can get a selection of wine from different vineyards around the UK. Often delivery fees are waived if you spend a certain amount.

My go to is Grape Britannia, an online retailer with what I believe to the widest selection of diverse English wines. They have been recognized by the Decanter World Wine Awards as a specialist English wine retailer.

A second favourite is Majestic Wine Warehouse. Whilst not an English wine specialist, they do have a growing selection. Plus, you can take advantage of the “mix 6” deals across the range of wine they offer.

Finally, I have been really surprised by the range of English wine available to buy on Amazon. They sell some of the more commercial wines, like Chapel Down, but I imagine may grow their range in future. If you’ve got Amazon Prime, you may get free delivery too!

There are a few other niche retailers selling English wine, but I’ve found that their stock is often limited.

Where to buy English wine: Supermarkets

When it comes to supermarkets – a few of them are building a great selection of English wine. By far, the two best, in my opinion, are Waitrose and M&S. Shop both ranges via Ocado to get your English wine delivered to your home.

Tesco & Aldi both have some interesting own brand English wine too. Personally, I’ feel a little underwhelmed with the selection at Asda, Sainsburys and Lidl.

Where to buy English Wine: Direct from the vineyard

The vast majority of English vineyards now have an online shop. Those that don’t will list their stockists (normally local deli stores), so you can find the wine locally.

Most vineyards also have a “cellar door”, aka a small shop offering their wine to buy during opening hours. Cellar doors are marvelous things, don’t forget that some will offer a cheeky tasting if you’re planning to make a purchase.

For me, buying direct from the vineyard is the most exciting way to buy English wine. It is a perfect excuse for visiting a vineyard, and it means that every bottle has a memory. The added bonus is that you may get a discount for buying a case of wine direct from the vineyard.
