As the sun shines brighter (sort of) and the days grow longer, there’s no better time to explore the vibrant world of English rosé. Perfect for picnics, delightful at dinners, and splendid for sunsets, English rosé wines capture the essence of summer in every sip.

With their reputation for crisp, refreshing, and beautifully hued wines, England’s vineyards offer some of the most enchanting rosé wines on the market today.

10 Best English Rosé Wine bottles to savour this summer

From the rolling hills of Sussex to the picturesque landscapes of Kent, English vineyards are producing rosé wines that stand out for their quality and character.

Here are some top picks that are sure to make your summer gatherings, meals, and quiet moments a bit more special:

Lark Song – Balfour, Kent

Lark Song is a pale, delicate and delicous rose wine made by Balfour (Hush Heath Estate), a vineyard in Kent. This wine is a summer delight in a bottle and it also has a reasonable price point – £14 per bottle.

Balfour have made the Lark Song wine alongside supermarket M&S, but the quality is certainly not compromised. In fact, this wine won a Decanter award bronze award in 2023.

You can read my full review of the Lark Song wine here, or go straight to M&S to buy it.

English Rose – Gusbourne, Kent

For those looking for something a little more sophisticated, Gusbourne’s rosé is a must-try. Another Decanter award winner, this wine is known for its bright and engaging notes of red berries and a floral bouquet, this wine not only tastes like summer but also feels like a luxury in every glass.

Buy direct from Gusbourne for £25.

Rose Pinot Noir Brut – Camel Valley, Cornwall

Camel Valley is a vineyard in the heart of Cornwall. This bottle of wine has previously been described by a journalist in The Times as “England’s best pink bubbles.” A sparkling wine, with a lot of attitude. Floral, delicate and crisp.

Perfect for a celebration. Buy direct from Camel Valley vineyard for £36 per bottle.

Bella Rosa Rosé – Whitehall Vineyard, Wiltshire

If you want an award winning English Rosé, then Bella Rosa Rosé is the one for you. Made with Pinot Meunier grapes grown in Wiltshire, this wine is made in the classic “Provence style”. Aka, it is exceptionally crisp and pale coloured.

Whitehall Vineyard received a silver Decanter World Wine Award in 2023. A high accolade. Buy direct from the vineyard for £18.99.

Charlotte May Rosé – Whitehall Vineyard, Wiltshire

Whilst we are talking about Whitehall Vineyard, we may as well discuss Charlotte May Rosé. Whereas the Bella Rosa is pale and dry, the Charlotte May is ripe, medium-dry and juicy.

This is also an award winning wine for Whitehall Vineyard, they won a Decanter World Wine Bronze Award for this in 2023. Buy direct from the vineyard for £16.99.

English Rose – Chapel Down, Kent

This delightful rosé from one of Kent’s most famous vineyards is a summer favorite. With its lovely notes of strawberries and cream, coupled with a subtle hint of melon, Chapel Down Rosé is refreshing and balanced, making it a perfect companion for a summer’s day.

Rose – Quoins Organic Vineyard, Wiltshire

This is a different style of Rose to the others on the list. Made with Rondo grapes, you’ll find a more rounded and juicy example of English rose wine. This wine has been made to the standards of organic and biodynamic wine. Buy direct from Quoins vineyard for £15.50.

Rosé De Noirs Brut – Ridgeview, East Sussex

If you want a very special English Rose wine, this is it. The Rose de Noirs Brut made by Ridgeview vineyard in East Sussex won a platinum Decanter World Wine award in 2023. That’s the best you can get!

Estate Reserve Rosé – Three Choirs Vineyard, Gloucestershire

Made by Three Choirs Vineyard in Gloucestershire, this is a lovely example of English Rose wine without a crazy price tag. A complex, off-dry rose, made with a blend of English grapes. You can buy it from wine retailer Grape Britannia for £12.49.

Pet Nat – M&S with Heppington Vineyard, Kent

M&S has created a first of it’s kind supermarket brand Pet Nat. This wine was released at the end of April 2024, just in time for the rose season. A candy pink wine, cloudy in the traditional Pet Nat style.

This wine is an inexpensive alternative to the more premium natural wines. Find out more about it in my full review here. Or, buy direct from Ocado here for £15.

How to serve English Rosé Wine

To fully enjoy the delicate flavors of English rosé, serve it chilled. Aim for a temperature around 8-10°C (46-50°F). This will ensure that the floral and fruity notes are pronounced, making each glass refreshing and enjoyable.

A standard wine glass will do just fine, but for an extra touch of elegance, serve it in a stemmed rosé glass to keep it cool longer.

Food Pairings for English Rosé Wine

One of the joys of English rosé is its versatility with food. Here are some pairing ideas that will enhance your summer meals:

Grilled Seafood – The light and crisp nature of rosé makes it a perfect match for grilled fish or shrimp. The smokiness from the grill and the freshness of the wine create a harmonious blend.

Recipe suggestion – try this grilled fish dish with courgette and watercress salad.

Summer Salads – Pair your rosé with a fresh summer salad, particularly those featuring berries, goat cheese, and vinaigrette. The wine complements the acidity and freshness of the salad perfectly.

Recipe suggestion – try this citrus chicken salad.

Barbecue – English rosé can surprisingly hold its own against the rich flavors of barbecue. Whether it’s grilled chicken or veggie skewers, the crispness of rosé refreshes the palate.

Recipe suggestion – try this recipe for sticky barbecue chicken ribs.

Soft Cheeses – Enjoy your rosé with a plate of soft cheeses, such as Brie or Camembert. The creaminess of the cheese paired with the dry, fruity wine makes for a delightful snack.
