15 inexpensive English wines to try in 2024

15 INEXPENSIVE ENGLISH WINES TO TRY IN 2024. MORE FIZZ FOR YOUR MONEY.

English wine is notoriously expensive. But, I’ve scoured the market to find 15 of the least expensive English wines available this year. I would hesitate to call these “cheap”, not least because I would associate cheap with “plonk” rather than good quality English wine. But, also because the majority of the bottles of wine on this list retail at more than the average bottle in a supermarket.

That said, I believe that all the bottles featured on my list of 15 inexpensive English Wines to try – are good quality, highly drinkable and worth the money.

Without further ado, you can find the list of affordable English wine below.

English Dry White Wine, Waitrose £9.99

Working alongside Surrey based vineyard Denbies, Waitrose have created a dry white wine. Each year Waitrose offers a slightly different vintage, making the most of grapes grown in Surrey.

I sampled the latest vintage, the 2023, and found a complex and delightful dry white wine. Notes of elderflower and ripe fruit, make this a fantastic bottle of English wine for under £10.

This time, the supermarket chain have worked with Lyme Bay – a vineyard based in Devon – to create this white wine. Called a “cuvee”, which is a posh way of saying blend, this is a refreshing white wine at a decent price.
